What is the story?

An exciting participatory arts project created by twelve nominated students from Matravers School, Westbury & Jill Carter, Social Engagement Artist. Exploring the theme of identity, the lads directed and undertook a series of performative journeys. Using a collection of found objects (toys), they set out to explore a world of work & play, responding to folk, everyday situations and environments along the way. The hugely creative process was documented with photography, film, drawings, dialogue & journals. There was potential to unearth, stories to unfold and dreams of a large rabbit, clown and group of black sheep ... finding their way, discovering new friends, standing out from the crowd, and truly becoming somebody!

Cut red tape & lets get out there!

The tiny flock organise themselves, think ahead and take care of each other.  It it apparent, that the main risk on these trips into the landscape could be for the mad brained artist and teacher's assistant - whose cronky knees have seriously been challenged up dale and down again, over and over.  The sheep in each location, couldn't see a thing inside their woolly heads, took first class care of themselves, helping each other and working well as a team to ensure all is well.  But OMG its all over the news about risk aversion aversion, the cutting red tape, health and safety stuff, wanting to ensure more pupils go on trips.  They don't mention sheep.

  1. Jan, trained in health & safety writes, It is fortunate that your foray into the wilds of Wiltshire corresponded with the cutting of red tape for out of school trips...............you have nothing to worry about...reading the blog, I have had the best laugh for ages............the sheep do look a bit Ku Klux Clan but hey ho.
